ICE SEGUERRA PROMISES ‘200%’ PERFORMANCE IN FEB. 16 CONCERT,
“As always naman, we give more than our 200 percent so I’m sure the audience will have an awesome time.”
Such was the promise of Ice Seguerra as excitement builds up for his upcoming February 16 concert at the LausGroup Event Centre in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga.
Though juggling his time for his singing career with that of his role as public servant, having been appointed as chairperson of the National Youth Commission, Seguerra’s musicality just wouldn’t run out of his system.
“I had to ask permission from the commission and my superiors. Allowed naman to practice your profession but limited lang. I only do gigs during weekends. At first nahirapan talaga ako to balance [my time] ‘coz ako yung tipong hirap mag-multi-task but nung medyo nagamay ko na ‘tong bagong work ko, I started accepting gigs na. Hopefully, makapag album narin,” Seguerra shared.
We’ve asked Seguerra some personal questions to which he generously obliged. Q: You’ve become one of the beautiful voices in Philippine music industry, what/who influenced you into becoming a singer? How? ICE: Actually, walang nag influence. Hindi ko rin pinangarap maging singer. It was more of a hobby then. Even my guitar playing. I learned because, you know, papogi. (Giggles) But now, I look up to Sting, Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, Tracy Chapman, Cynthia Alexander and The Beatles.
Q: You are not only a singer but also songwriter. What/who is your inspiration when writing songs? ICE: Well, I can write but I wouldn’t dare call myself a songwriter yet. Frustrated songwriter, pwede pa.My inspiration? I write better when I’m sad.
Q: You have been a familiar face in the showbiz industry for many years now. If you were not a performer or an actor, what would you have been? And why? ICE: Hmmm, I honestly don’t know. Siguro nasa production pa rin but behind the scenes.
Q: Is there an artist whom you’ve always dreamed of being on stage with? And why? ICE: Lahat nung mga binanggit ko na influences. Why? Because I love them!
Q: What’s that specific song that you could completely relate to? And why? ICE: Saranggola sa Ulan ni Gary Granada yung una kong naisip. Why? Because of these lines: “Ang pagasa’y walang hanggan, pagibig ay walang hadlang, at lilipad ang saranggola sa ulan.” Walang imposible.
Q: Who are the people behind the success of Ice Seguerra and how did they contribute in making you the person that you are right now? ICE: Siyempre nanay at tatay ko. Especially my mom, teacher ko yan eh. Sa buhay, sa pagkanta, sa pag-arte, sa kung paano magbigay ng respeto sa sarili mo at sa ibang tao. My wife, because she inspires me to be better always and never settle. All the people I’ve worked with especially sina Mike Villegas, Margot Gallardo, Jonathan Manalo, MG Mozo and Annabelle Regalado Borja. Malaking parte sila kung sino ako ngayon.
Q: What will be your advice for all the aspiring singers/musicians out there? ICE: Just do it. And enjoy while you’re doing it.
